April 8, 2023 @ 9:00 am 5:00 pm

Details:

Location: Woolsey Hall

Date: April 8, 2023

Time: 9 AM to 5 PM

A free agent based modeling workshop for programmers and non-programmers alike!

Agent-based modeling is an exciting way to answer questions and do science by conducting computer-based simulations. Ready for the best part? With the training provided at our workshop, you can code your own simulations using free software from NetLogo. It is a valuable resume builder!

Our free workshop and hackathon event focuses on a hands-on approach no matter you experience. Beginners are not only welcome; you are encouraged to attend. In the afternoon, attendees will compete for prizes using the skills they have learned. Please join us on Saturday, April 8, 2023 in Woolsey Hall at Wichita State University!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to be a business major to attend the event?
A: No. The event is open to all students of any major.

Q: Do I need any coding experience to attend this event?
A: No coding experience is required.

Q: Do I have to compete in the event, or can I just learn NetLogo?
A: You do not have to compete in the event, you can come just to learn if you want.

Q: What is agent-based modeling, anyway?
A: Agent-based modeling (ABM) is a type of computational modeling that simulates the behavior of individuals (or agents) within a larger system. The agents in an ABM are typically programmed to follow certain rules or behaviors, and their interactions with each other and their environment can lead to emergent patterns and outcomes.

Q: What are the use-cases for agent-based modeling in a business context?
A: Agent-based models can be used to model the behavior of consumers, firms, and other actors in a market or industry.

Q: Can I attend virtually?
A: No. The ABM Hackathon & Workshop is an in-person event.
